Our Story

Our hope for the cafe is to foster a love of animals and others, while giving the community a safe space where all are welcome to come, have fun, and save lives.

We are Michaela and Adam Fitzpatrick. Our story began in 2012 at the University of Oklahoma when Adam took a chance and approached the pretty girl he noticed on a park bench. Since then, we’ve graduated, welcomed 3 fur babies into our home, gotten married, and started our careers. Michaela is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work and operates her own private counseling practice, Progress not Perfection Counseling, PLLC. Adam is a licensed Professional Engineer with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and works at Oklahoma’s premier Architecture & Engineering firm, FSB, and operates his own firm, Fitzpatrick Consulting Engineers, PLLC.

The road to don’t stress meowt - Cat Cafe started in Michaela’s childhood growing up with many family pets, especially cats. From a young age, she would help her grandma feed and rescue any stray kitten they could find. Fast forward to sophomore year of college and Michaela was desperate for a furry friend, which is when Adam convinced her to “splurge” and rescue the kitten from Petsmart that stole her heart. Izzy is now almost 10 and the most wonderful cat. Adam never really grew up around cats and wasn’t so sure of his feelings until we adopted Izzy and although his love doesn’t come close to Michaela’s obsession, he encourages her with a smile.

It wasn’t until early 2021 when the thought of a cat cafe crossed our minds. We had started to plan a trip to Japan and the idea of cat cafes originated in Asia in the late 90s. Michaela was ecstatic with the thought of finally being able to visit one. A few months later they were in Miami and stumbled upon The Cat Cafe South Beach, while on vacation. It had never occurred to them to research the cafes in the US, but that sparked an interest, especially when they learned that Oklahoma was one of the last cat cafe deserts in the nation. Since that moment, Michaela was dreaming of her perfect cat cafe and Adam was crunching the numbers. Now here we are, and we couldn’t be happier to bring this dream to our home state.
